eNASCAR College iRacing Series Race Preview: Dover Motor Speedway

The eNASCAR College iRacing Series Powered by NACE Starleague heads to Dover Motor Speedway for the third race on the 2023-24 academic calendar. Once again, racers will be strapping into their NASCAR Xfinity Series rides for 110 scheduled laps, with scholarship awards up for grabs to the highest finishers.

The race will stream live on Tuesday at 8PM ET on eNASCAR.com/live and across iRacing social media channels. The 130-lap eNASCAR Contender iRacing Series race at Richmond Raceway will be running at the same time. The broadcast will check in on that event as well throughout the evening.

About the Series: The eNASCAR College iRacing Series gives college students from the United States and Canada the opportunity to compete for their share of $60,000 in scholarships. Using machines from the NASCAR Xfinity Series or NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 40 drivers qualify for the event by registering here and posting their fastest lap times in a two-week Time Attack through the iRacing UI. With hundreds of colleges and universities represented in each Time Attack and only one representative per school, drivers are competing not only against the greater iRacing community, but also their own classmates, for a spot on the prestigious grid.

Last Race: In the second round of the season at Charlotte Motor Speedway last month, the series switched from NASCAR Xfinity Series cars to the NASCAR Craftsman Trucks. It turned into a slugfest for the top spot among two drivers with eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series experience, Cal State Fullerton’s Logan Clampitt and UNC at Charlotte’s Garrett Lowe, as well as Liberty University’s Austin Farr. In the closing stages, Farr managed to take the lead from Lowe. Clampitt kept it close, but Farr held on and scored his first career victory.

Last Season: Back in the Spring 2023 semester, Clampitt, at the time racing for Saddleback College, was a force to be reckoned with. For the first time in his professional sim racing career, he wasn’t racing in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series, having retired a year removed from a Championship 4 performance in 2021. Clampitt brought that same intensity to the College Series, winning multiple races in Spring 2023, including the event at Dover in February. Clampitt led 82 of the 100 laps, utilizing pit strategy late to seal the deal over Rutgers competitor Daniel Buttafuoco and University of Maine at Machias’ Daniel Faulkingham.

Track Info: Also known as The Monster Mile, Dover Motor Speedway is a concrete oval that measures a mile in length, with 24 degrees of banking in the corners and even nine degrees of banking on the straightaway. Opened in 1969, it was originally asphalt, but since 1995, it’s been one of only three concrete tracks on the NASCAR schedule. It’s known as a “self-cleaning” speedway, because when the wrecks happen, they might be big, but they’ll usually end up rolling to the bottom of the banking. The Delaware track has appeared on the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Craftsman Trucks Series schedules through the years.
